California Dreamin'

Day 1 started early and with little sleep. As we packed the car in the misty rain we quickly realized we *surprise surprise* overpacked. It was either Michael or the extra suitcase. So we left Michael in Stoughton. No, I'm kidding. Mom's shipping our other bag, which was all filled with house things we will need before all our other stuff comes.

6am: We kissed the mezzuzah, hugged Mom and Dad, and took off. Our original plan was to drive 11.5 hours to Canton, Ohio and check out the NFL Pro Hall of Fame. But timing wasn't on our side - it closes at 5pm. Lucky for us the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland stays open til 9pm on Wednesdays. Fate? I like to think so.

We made great timing. By 5pm we were taking pics in front of Lake Eerie and then touring the museum, learning all about the history of rock & roll and all the talented musicians. Subconscious California references were sprinkled throughout the entire day, but my favorite was when the Mama's and Papa's "California Dreamin'" song was being played in one of the exhibits. I've been California dreamin' on such a winter's day for 27 years.

8pm: Famished. We ate at The Greenhouse Tavern, a restaurant that serves food inspired by classic recipes interpreted with local ingredients. My kind of place for sure. I'm not going to go all Grammy and share what we eat during every meal, but the fries were noteable. Animal Style Frites came w/ bacon, two fried eggs, whole grain mustard, mozzarella cheese curd & brown gravy. :) Love you, Grammy!

  1. "California Dreaming" was a favorite song of mine. Dad and I saw the Mamma's and Papa's at South Shore Music Circus years ago and I thought they were still great! ( I think I went with Dad!) Glad you are enjoying yourselves! ! Love,Mom....

    1. Ask Dad if it was him tonight. :)

The song is #89 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

    2. Mom is correct. We saw the reconstituted band with "Spanky" McFarlane taking the place of the deceased Mama Cass and Mckenzie Phillips taking the place of Michelle Phillips. One of my favorite bands. Glad you enjoyed. Certainly an icon of the 60's.
